This room is part of the kitchen/great room, so we'll definitely need to keep these other spaces in mind and pull each space together.
The dining table was a hand me down, along with the chairs. W&K are looking to replace it at some point. Since I am not sure when 'some point' is... here are a couple of ideas...
1. Rework what you have...
2. Invest in some funky peices to make it work, for now...
3. Purchase new...I have found a few options in a moderate price range to consider.
~1~To rework the existing peice, I would start by sanding and painting the peices. Specifically the table. See how its been done succesfully here. Holly gave an ordinary table and chairs a whole new life. Check out her store White Berry Reinvented for inspiring ideas of how paint can transform the old.
~2~ It's all about the hunt. Keep the table and find some old mismatched funky chairs to pull together a more eclectic, colorful look. Each chair would have its own distinct attributes, but together they would all work. Take these for example:

This is a look that appears to be gathered over time. However, with some thoughtful garage sale-ing and thrifting, this look can be acheived. The wood finishes would be the trickiest- nothing a bit of sandpaper and some cans of paint can't help.
~3~ Following are some cost conscious, great looking peices that will work well in the space.

These are each affordable options if Katie & Wes decide to purchase new. Ikea offers up the first two options for $249 and $399. Pier One brings us this third option with the white washed bottom half on sale for $249.

As for chairs:

More Ikea! The first chair happens to be in my dining room! The other two are Ikea and the last one is from JC Penney! Isn't the grayish white wash cool? These are some fun ideas for one or all dining chairs.
To add a bit of interest, they may want to choose some alternative seating at the table. Some ideas...
For 50 bucks, this rattan Ikea chair is an awesome, affordable way to add that cottagey nantucketish style that Katie is drawn to. This fabric covered Ikea option at 90 bucks a pop is great to add for the ends of the table. There is also a skirted option! Lastly, JCP has another great gray-whitewash piece- this bench would look great at one of the tables mixed with a few chairs!
Which idea would you go with? I will further explore their choice... more to come!
Nice ideas....they need to paint!!!
