It's where you eat...where you gather...where you work, watch tv, prepare meals...

The Kitchen! Kitchens are the center of most houses....Katie and Wes' is no different. Their kitchen happens to be part of a 'great room' that combines with the dining, living and entry into one big, open space. There are great bones to this space. With some tweaking, the kitchen could potentially one day resemble one of the following...

Which style is your favorite? Luckily the kitchen we are working on is spacious and has an awesome center island, so there is endless potential! One thing that I am sure Wes has already noticed is that none of these kitchens show oak cabinets....Well, there is a reason for that, sweet Wes...But, since we should be practical and work with what we have for a few years, over the next couple of blogs will be a short list of projects to work on in the meantime.

First and foremost...
1. Paint. Paint the walls from the refrigerator, the sink wall, and the sliding door wall. Those three. The color will be the toughest choice. I am voting for something that is still very neutral so that it may work with any future projects...but something that warms up the space and unifies it. It also needs to work with that oak. I will be selecting colors from Benjamin Moore. Get all three colors in sample sizes and play with them at home...near the cabinets, so that you may decide which you will enjoy the most. These are three variations of khaki.

a. green-khaki: Ben Moore "Baby Turtle"
b. grey-khaki: Ben Moore "Deer Path"
c. gold-khaki: Ben Moore "Vellum"

Check out http://www.benjaminmoore.com/ to see these colors. Unfortunately, it isn't as easy as searching for a color. Follow this link, select 'bathrooms & kitchens', scroll to the second page of photos and select the last kitchen (it has a blue wall), use the binoculars to search for each color by name. Ignore the other colors shown with the main wall color.
What do you think?

  1. I say get samples of all three and try them in the house....look for the one that best tones down the color of the cabinets..possibly has one of the tones of the cabinets in it.
